Do Calories Matter On A Keto Diet? Do You Count Calories On Keto? The Ugly Truth, Tips & More
April 7, 2019A super quick 3-ingredient recipe for perfect keto chocolate cottage cheese.
Even though it’s dairy, cottage cheese is one of the top keto diet foods you can easily consume on a daily basis. One standard package of cottage cheese usually has less than 4 g of net carbs. Unless you are on a dairy or lactose free program, you can have one or two packages of cottage cheese a day.
Cottage cheese is quite tasty just by itself. However, with just a few simple extra ingredients you can turn it into a quick and delicious on-the-go dessert. You guessed it. I am talking sweet chocolate cottage cheese.
My idea to “upgrade” my plain cottage cheese a bit was born while I was baking my keto peanut butter cookies. I was a bit hungry and was looking for ways to add more calories, fat and taste to my current cottage-cheese meal. The idea came very spontaneously but turned out to be really ingenious.
So here it comes. A super quick and super easy recipe for chocolate cottage cheese that tastes almost like my keto chocolate mousse. The main difference is that my chocolate cottage cheese is more of a protein bomb instead of a fat bomb my other chocolate desserts are.
Who said you cannot turn your cottage cheese into a small chocolate dessert? Fortunately no one!
Ingredients
- 200 g (2.1 oz) of cottage cheese.
- 15 g (0.5 oz) of cacao powder.
- 4 tablespoons of erythritol. You can also use liquid stevia or a blend of the two. Note that erythritol is less sweet than stevia so you may want to add more of it to achieve the same level of sweetness.
- 15 g (0.5 oz) of unsalted butter (optionally)
Instructions
- Open a package of cottage cheese. Make sure it’s in the liquid form (like on the picture below). Make sure it’s not soured or it will not taste as good.
PRACTICAL TIP: Cottage cheese usually has very few ingredients (often only natural ones) so it may go sour quickly. That’s why I recommend only buying cottage cheese with distant expiration date (at least a week).
- Add cacao powder. Feel free to add more or less of it depending on how chocolate you want your cottage cheese to become.
- Add erythritol or/and stevia.
PRACTICAL TIP: A blend of the two will probably give your cottage cheese the best taste.
- Mix all the ingredients.
- Mine wasn’t sweet enough. I also wanted to make it more chocolate so I added more cocoa powder and some stevia.
- Your chocolate cottage cheese is practically ready at this point. However, if you want to add more fat (improve the protein-to-fat ratio) or calories to your meal, add a bit of butter to it. Simply dissolve a slice of butter on the frying pan and add it to your cottage cheese.
- Mix all the ingredients again and your chocolate cottage cheese is ready for consumption.
- Enjoy your keto chocolate cottage cheese!

CALORIES: 343 kcal
PROTEIN: 26.2 g
FAT: 23.9 g
NET CARBS: 6.5 g
Ingredients
- 200 g of cottage cheese
- 15 g of butter
- 15 g of cocoa powder
- A few tablespoons of erythritol
Instructions
-
Make sure to use fresh cottage cheese (in the liquid form). Soured cottage cheese won't make such a delicious chocolate dessert.
-
Add cocoa powder. Add as much as you like. 15 g is just for reference (the amount I used).
-
Add erythritol and/or stevia. Mix all the ingredients and taste your chocolate cottage cheese.
-
Dissolve a slice of butter and add it to your cottage cheese.
-
Mix it all up again and consume.
Recipe Notes
Feel free to make sweetener or cocoa powder amount adjustments. You can also trade butter for heavy whipping cream. Chocolate without any added fat (neither butter nor whipping cream) also tastes awesome.

Great way to make boring cottage cheese really tasty chocolate pudding.
I would add a scoop of creamy peanut butter for more fat. Mmmm! My mom would make a blended cottage cheese blintz filling for crepes using nutmeg, vanilla, sweetener and almond flavoring. Sometimes I like to eat it that way without a crepe…I guess crepes aren’t very Keto friendly?
