Discover the recipe for keto buns and rolls that are not only perfect and delicious but also VERY low in carbs and calories (only 2.8 g of net carbs and 150 kcal per one bun).
Most people starting a keto diet have the biggest problem with giving up bread and other baked goods. It’s no wonder that you may have a hard time giving up bakery products if you’ve been eating them your whole life and you simply love them.
Fortunately, thanks to this recipe, you don’t need to feel deprived any more. Neither do you need to part ways with your favorite bread, buns or rolls. You can bake your own keto bread that looks and tastes the same as regular bread but has almost no carbs and relatively few calories.
You guessed it. Today I’m sharing with you the recipe for keto buns (or keto rolls). The recipe is very simple, has few steps and requires only about an hour of your time. And the final product will absolutely amaze you (both with its looks and taste).
Would you say the picture shows a keto bun if you didn’t new this isn’t a regular bun? I bet you wouldn’t and that’s the trick.
If you are into baking, make sure to check my recipe for keto burgers (made with keto buns, of course).
Ingredients (For Ten Keto Buns)
90 g (2.8 oz) of psyllium husk powder. This is your zero-carb flour replacement that looks and tastes almost like regular flour.
6 medium-sized eggs, which is about 300-320 g (10-11 oz).
400 g (14 oz) of natural cheese spread (two packages). Make sure to choose the type that has less than 2-4 g of net carbs.
50 g (1.7 oz) of sunflower seeds (or any other seeds you like). With seeds inside, your keto rolls will indeed look like regular rolls.
Instructions
Measure and add 90 g of psyllium husk powder into a larger bowl (make sure to do it in that order exactly). A larger bowl will make it more comfortable for you to mix all the ingredients with a blender and/or your own hand.
Add 6 eggs, cheese spread, butter and baking powder. 4-5 eggs will also do the trick and make your keto buns lower in calories. The same applies to cheese spread (you can add a bit less and the dough will still be fine).
Add sea or Himalayan salt. Add as much as you want depending on how salty you want your keto rolls to be. PRACTICAL TIP:
Note that buns will turn out a bit less sweet after baking and that cheese spread will also add a lot of the salty taste to them.
Now it’s also the time to add seeds if you want your keto buns to be a bit higher in fat. PRACTICAL TIP:
Don’t overdo it with seeds because they have a lot of fat and calories. If you add too much, your keto buns will turn into fat bombs. That’s OK as long as you want them to be fat bombs and you aren’t following a weight loss program. Speaking of fat bombs, check my chocolate peanut butter fat bombs and Raffaello fat bombs.
Blend all the ingredients together. You can use a simple mixer or blender. Your own hand should also do the trick.
Preheat the oven to 170 °C (340 °F) and turn the hot air circulation on. While your oven is heating up, complete the next steps.
Spread the baking paper on the baking tray.
Form (with wet hands) buns of the preferred size and shape and place them on the baking sheet. Baguette? Graham bread roll? Burger or hamburger bun? You name it. PRACTICAL TIP:
Make sure to have wet hands. Otherwise the dough will stick to your hands and forming buns will become a bit difficult.
Put your keto buns into the oven and bake them for 25 minutes. PRACTICAL TIP:
You keto rolls should start growing after about 10 minutes. Don’t worry that their shape isn’t perfectly round. They will become round once the dough is baked.
Lower the temperature to 150 °C (300 °F) and bake your buns for another 10-15 minutes.
Remove your buns from the oven once they get a nice brownish color. PRACTICAL TIP:
Be careful not to get your buns burned. Watch them closely after these 35 minutes of baking.
Let your keto buns cool down a little bit. You can cut them in half or into smaller slices once they cool down. Note that they look the same as regular buns on the inside.
How To Serve Keto Buns
You can eat your keto rolls and buns with anything you like. Here are my top three favorite ideas:
Keto buns with lard and salt.
Keto buns with butter. I absolutely love eating buns with butter.
Keto rolls with butter and sausages. That’s the perfect low-carb sandwich. Feel free to add salad or other vegetables to your sandwich.
