Kale is a top keto diet vegetable that has lots of great health benefits and weight loss properties. There are really hundreds of ways you can eat kale and it will always be super healthy and tasty.
Today I’m sharing with you the quickest and the simplest way to prepare a really delicious and nutritious keto kale smoothie. You can have it ready within minutes and there are only 3 ingredients in the basic version.
The keto kale smoothie is a low-calorie refreshing drink you can have as a side dish, a pre-workout meal a liquid snack. Â
Ingredients
- 100 g (3.5 oz) of raw or frozen kale
- 230 g (8.1 oz) of grapefruit which is 1 large grapefruitÂ
- A few drops of organic lemon juice or apple cider vinegar (ACV).
Possible Extra Ingredients
- You can use any type of grapefruit you want. Yellow and green types are also OK.
- It’s best to use unpasteurized lemon juice or/and organic ACV.
- To whiten the smoothie, you can add 20-50 ml of coconut milk (either light or regular) or almond milk.
- To make it sweeter, add a few drops of liquid stevia or a teaspoon of erythritol.
Instructions
- Wash fresh kale. If you are using frozen kale, let it unfreeze at first.
PRACTICAL TIP: For keto kale smoothie, both fresh and frozen kale is OK. If you are using fresh kale, check out my guide on how to wash vegetables to remove pesticides.Â
- Remove thicker kale stems because they may mess up with your blender. They can be really hard and thick.
- Put the kale in a larger bowl.
PRACTICAL TIP: I recommend using a larger bowl so that your kale smoothie won’t go out of it while blending.Â
- Peel the grapefruit and split it into sections. Add it into the bowl.
- Add a few drops of lemon juice or/and apple cider vinegar.
PRACTICAL TIP: These few drops can really improve the taste of your smoothie. - Blend all the ingredients until smooth.
- Enjoy!
PRACTICAL TIP: You can eat your kale shake right away or put it in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours so that it becomes cold and has a clearer taste.Â

Ingredients
- 100 g of kale (raw or frozen)

Instructions

Cut or chop kale into smaller pieces so that it's easier to blend them. Be careful with kale stems which are a bit thick and may mess with your blender.

Put kale leaves into a larger bowl.

Peel the grapefruit and split it into sections. Add them to the bowl with kale leaves.

Add a teaspoon of lemon juice or/and apple cider vinegar.

Blend all the ingredients until smooth.

Recipe Notes
This keto kale shake tastes best when it's cold. Feel free to add other ingredients for better taste (like liquid stevia, erythritol, berries or coconut milk). Add seeds if you want a more calorie and fat-dense meal. It also tastes great with some avocado. If you are on a weight loss program, count any extra ingredients towards your daily macros.Â
