Protein Sparing Modified Fast. PSMF Diet Becomes My New 90-Day Challenge
July 1, 2018Discover my latest recipe for the perfect keto tuna salad with all the ingredients to make it a perfect and well-balanced keto meal.Â
Fish, especially fatty fish, is a great source of both good fat and protein, which makes it a perfect keto food to consume on a daily basis. As a real salad lover (I eat at least one huge salad every day), I wanted to create the perfect salad with one of my favorite types of fish: tuna.
So here it comes! The keto tuna salad recipe that is very easy and quick to prepare. I can also assure you that you will love its taste and feel full for many hours. This is one of my top salads. I spent a lot of time trying out different ingredient combinations to come up with the perfect taste and macros.
It really looks yummy, doesn’t it? I think so! Let me show you how to prepare it step by step.
Ingredients
- 100 g (3.5 oz) of canned tuna (I recommend Rio Mare) in olive oil, drained
- 120 g (4.3 oz) of hard-boiled eggs, organic or free-range (2 big ones)
- 50 g (1.8 oz) of black olives, chopped (1 handful)
- 100 g (3.5 oz) of celery, chopped (2 celery sticks)
- 100 g (3.5 oz) of low-salt cucumber, chopped (1 huge)
- 50 g (1.8 oz) of fresh spinach leaves, finely-chopped
- 20 g (1 oz) of mayonnaise (1 tablespoon)
- 10 g (0.4 oz) of olive oil (1 teaspoon) or MCT oil
- Black pepper, gound (to taste)
- Himalayan salt (to taste)
Feel free to modify the list of ingredients if you want to have a bigger or smaller salad. Note that these ingredients will make a decent-size salad that will keep you full for many hours. It has almost 700 kcal and a perfect fat-to-protein ratio. This salad will be ideal for people doing intermittent fasting and eating 2-3 meals a day.
Instructions
- Start from washing and drying fresh vegetables. In this case it’s fresh spinach leaves and celery. This is a very important step especially if you buy your vegetables from a supermarket. Here is the guide of how to wash vegetables to remove pesticides from them.
PRACTICAL TIP: You can omit this step if you buy vegetables from organic (and known) sources or grow your own vegetable garden (highly recommended). - Boil 2 eggs. To make them hard-boiled, you need to boil them for about 10+ minutes.
- Chop fresh spinach leaves into really small pieces and place them into a larger bowl. I prefer really fine pieces which will ideally mix with the remaining ingredients to create the perfect tuna paste.
- Add olive oil or MCT oil to the spinach leaves and mix them gently.
PRACTICAL TIP: You can add salt and pepper to the leaves at this point.
- Now it’s time to chop the celery, cucumber and olives. The smaller the pieces, the better the salad will turn out. Place the chopped celery, olives and cucumber into a separate bowl for now.
PRACTICAL TIP: You can place all the ingredients in one bowl and mix them immediately. However, for a better visual effect, I recommend doing it according to the instructions.
- Remove the tuna from the can and drain it (just a little bit). Cut it into smaller pieces as well. Place the tuna into the bowl with the celery, cucumber and olives.
- Add mayonnaise to the bowl with the tuna and chopped vegetables. Gently mix all the ingredients.
PRACTICAL TIP: You can add salt and pepper right now.
- Place the tuna paste onto the spinach with olive oil in the bigger bowl. Place it in the center for a better visual effect.
- Peel and cut eggs into small pieces and place them around the tuna paste.
- You can sprinkle eggs with salt and pepper.
PRACTICAL TIP: Feel free to add some more mayonnaise on eggs if you like. - The salad is ready to eat immediately.
Note that you can change the order of steps and the salad will still turn out great. This way, however, you are guaranteed of a spectacular visual effect that will impress your family and friends.

Wonderful recipe, sharing this…
Tuna is my favorite fish because I can just eat it on its own or blend it into a delicious salad. Loving tuna. Gimme more recipes with it 🙂
Hi Rachel 🙂 Yes, tuna is indeed a multi-purpose fish you can use for many different recipes or even eat on its own as a quick high-protein snack. What’s more I use canned tuna as my “emergency” meal I can take to parties where there is only junk food 🙂 it works great!
Eggs and tuna go great together! Love the recipe 🙂 and making this for my husband tomorrow.
This keto tuna salad is wonderful. I eat it as my lunch and it keeps my full for many hours. Thank you Olga. Are you planning more recipes with tuna?
Hi Paxton 🙂 It’s great you like my salad. You know tuna is also quite a recent discovery of mine. As long as it comes from good sources, it’s power food so I am certainly planning on creating more tuna-based recipes. Be ready 🙂 I am currently brainstorming new ideas!
I just cannot really stand the taste of tuna but I listened to your advice and mixed it with olives and mayo. I ate it and I actually started to like tuna. Thanks a lot. Awesome O:)
Hello Gary! Thanks for stopping by 🙂 Well, I had the exact same problem with tuna. I just didn’t like its taste so I ate it really rarely. But for the needs of this recipes I needed to think of a way of making it actually tasty. And it worked!
